President Robert Mugabe has made his first public appearance since Wednesday following an apparent coup by the countries military.

He attended a graduation ceremony in the capital Harare, but appeared without his wife, Grace.

Robert Mugabe had been under house arrest for the last two days.

Zimbabwe’s army made its move after a power struggle over his successor and Mugabe’s sacking off his Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mugabe’s appearance follows a statement issued by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces earlier this morning, which stated there is progress in the negotiations with Mugabe for him to relinquish power.
