The US President Donald Trump has said “things will happen” when asked about North Korea, following meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump said “China can fix this problem quickly and easily”, urging President Xi to reduce financial links with North Korea and he also called on Russia to help.

Trump is pressing China to tighten the screws further on North Korea and its aim to build nuclear weapons.

President Xi reiterated that China would strive for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula but offered no hint that China would change tack on policies with North Korea.

Xi commented: “We are devoted to reaching a resolution to the Korean peninsula issue through dialogue and consultations.”

President Xi was speaking alongside the US President in Beijing to announce the signing of about $US250 billion in commercial deals between US and Chinese firms.
